MDS 2: Scott's Manly Baseball Birthday Card

My son Trey celebrated a big birthday earlier this month.  He’s now 21 years old.  On his big birthday, I realized that he’s given me 21 wonderful years to celebrate his life and to watch him play a game that I once played.  I thought I would make a card for him in our new MDS 2 program so I could email it to him. (I’m such an evolved “Baby Boomer.”)

In our family of four big boys and my wife (bless her heart), we’re not men of many words, and we definitely don’t go around the house proclaiming our feelings for one another, but I thought he would be able to know what I was feeling with this simple card.

I actually started from scratch because I wanted to use the colors of the school he plays for. So I started with a blank background and found what I was looking for in the Designer Series Paper “Essentials” Kit.  I then found some basic punches that I could use to match the red in his uniform.  It looked good, but not quite complete so I started perusing though the embellishment kits and saw the kit name “Downtown Grunge” and just knew I would find something cool in there with such a manly name.  Sure enough I found a really cool zigzag stitch that completed the card just with what I had in mind.  A finance guy in a creative world…pretty scary!  Happy birthday, Trey!

Nice work Scott!  Your son is one lucky young man to have such a creative and thoughtful Dad.  I can't wait for winter in Minnesota so that I can snuggle in with a hot cup of coffee and my laptop to play with MDS 2 for 3 entire months!  Come on snowflakes!!!!!!!!!

Really impressive!  My son would "get it" also, although, I would have to change from baseball to football....it is so hard to sometimes come up with a card for the male species....and I know I just can't go buy one anymore!  Great job!

Awesome!  I agree, the zigzag stitch is perfect for this page...kinda like the stitch on a baseball. I love using MDS to create eCards for birthdays (because sometimes I forget to put the card in the mail early enough). And I just realized, I tend to send electronic cards to boys more than to girls...how interesting. Thanks for sharing :-)
