The new Designer Templates option in MDS 2 is truly awesome. You can quickly find any template you have by just double clicking “Designer Templates” on the “New Project Options” screen (see below). Scroll down to the template you want to use and you’re on your way to a great project.
I was looking for a fun and easy way to share our favorite family recipes with my three adult sons—something they requested that would be enjoyable to use and doesn’t take up much space. The new Orchard Harvest Swatchbook Template was the perfect answer. You can purchase this template as a download or as the Haunts & Harvest Collection Discfrom page 28 of the holiday catalog.
The template allowed me to personalize my project so I tried out different options by converting sizes and changing colors. The 5" x 5" book was a great size for a small recipe collection—not too overwhelming for the beginning cook and small enough to store easily. I changed the cover color to Old Olive and the apple accent to Cherry Cobbler—a look I know my three guys would find appealing.

Next comes the real work and fun—selecting and putting our special recipes into the book. With this easy to use template, it’s as quick as typing out the ingredients and instructions into the text blocks.
This part of the project was super enjoyable as it brought back many memories of cooking and sharing our favorite foods as a family. These recipes continue to bring us together—even though Adam is close by in Salt Lake, David in Chicago, and Nathan in Spain. I look forward to the phone calls when they attempt these recipes for the first time. And our traditions live on…
Aren’t you inspired? It’s so easy to collect your family’s favorite recipes into a personal collection. What a great gift for everyone in your family and so much fun for you, too!
