Let me just start by saying, aren't the downloads this week fantastic? (Trust me on this one—you should get your hands on all of them.) The Best Year Photobook Template may be the best ever download! I love everything about it. And I love the Holiday List of All Lists because I could use all the help I can get to stay organized during the holidays.

Speaking of the holiday lists, I need to get started on gifts for my neighbors, friends, and co-workers. I started thinking about a couple of fun ideas I've seen on Pinterest:

  1. Printing directly on paper bags
  2. Popping popcorn in paper bags

Then, all the sudden a great idea “popped” into my head. What if I printed Designer Series Paper from the Winter Wonders Kit  on a white bag and put popcorn in it? (I was really excited!) And, here’s what I came up with.

I used Designer Series Paper in an 8-1/2" x 11" project and printed it directly onto the paper bag using my home printer. This takes a little practice. You can tape the bag directly to the center of some paper to feed it through a little easier. Also, I cut about an inch off the top of the bag so it fit the pattern better. I can’t guarantee that this works with all printers, but give it a try!

Then, I created a tag with instructions for the popcorn and covered a clothespin with another pattern. (Make sure your friends remove the clothespin before they pop the popcorn.) There you have it, a quick and easy start to holiday gift giving.

UPDATE: I was nervous after I read some of your comments about microwaves, so I looked into it some more. I found out that printing ink can contain traces of metal, and could harm your microwave. After learning that, I don’t think it’s a good idea to put a printed bag in your microwave. I’m so sorry! Good thing you questioned me. I’m so embarrassed. I hope you’ll forgive me and find other ways to try out some of the aspects of this project.

I love this idea!  What a great gift for college students.  They love popcorn study breaks!  Thanks for this idea!!!  I'll be including these in the next care packages I send to my kids!

I would still print the bag, just put another plain bag inside for the popcorn.  Double bagged is safer with my group anyway.

Bad for the microwave or not, that is super cool!!  I love what you've done!

Lindsey, thank you so much for your kindness. I love the idea of printing on the bag (had never thought of it!). I will do it for the grand kids, just put something different in it.

I've created a tag similar to yours, Lindsay -- but it has a regular bag of microwave popcorn inside with similar "steps" for popping and enjoying!  This has been so much fun!  I've been working on similar ideas for Halloween (kind of late for that) and Thanksgiving.

Kate, I added a update to the bottom of my blog post and just wanted to thank you for asking the right questions. I think I got too excited about my project and forgot to do my research. (Epic fail on my part.) Hopefully you can at least use this idea to investigate other unique (and less risky) ways to use My Digital Studio.

Thank you!  A  DUH moment -- I figured that is what you did!  :)

I'm glad it's working for you, Pat! :)

Thank you! I created the tag using stamps and DSP from the Winter Wonders Kit. It's two layered Rounded Corner Punches, stamps (that I colored), and text.
