I love scrapbooking. For me, it’s documenting a little piece of our family’s history with each page that I create. Sometimes my pages are clean and simple and sometimes they’re grungy. I might use tons of photos on my layout or sometimes only one. But, my hope is that each page tells a story, evokes emotion, and shares a meaningful moment in our lives. I’ve found that creating great pages in MDS is pretty easy. But sadly, I don’t always journal, or tell the story. Years from now, will my kids be able to relive that moment we shared? Are their kids going to know who is in those photos?

I challenged myself to take the time to journal the next time I created a scrapbook page.

Here is a layout of a recent event:

My grandmother recently came to Georgia for a visit all the way from Vancouver, WA. I took lots of photos because I want to remember every detail of her visit. I love this photo of us. I wanted to scrapbook it right away while her visit was fresh in my mind.   My journaling isn’t as detailed since I have several others from her visit. But, I think it says enough—it tells our age, how much she means to me, and documents my grandma’s first “selfie.”:) I added the journaling at a slant to match the banner on my layout.

I wanted to create another layout for each of my boys. Here’s one I created for my youngest son:

This photo is from last year, but I felt like it depicted his little personality so well. I created a clean layout with plenty of space for journaling—nothing fancy, but it says exactly what I wanted to say. (And the smile on his face after he read it was sooo priceless.)

There are so many ways to add journaling to your layouts in MDS. You can mix different fonts and sizes, add text to punches or over photos, add text on a line, etc. So many possibilities! But the important thing is, to do it! So I challenge you to add journaling to your next layout. Tell the story. I bet you (and others) will be glad you did!
