We’ve been working on some big changes, and we just can’t contain ourselves anymore. So, raise your hands if you want to know what we’ve been up to? (Yes, we can sense your virtual curiosity.)

Alright, here it goes:

  1. We’re changing the name of the software to MDS. Now, you might be asking yourself, didn’t it just change to MDS 2 last year? Yep, it sure did.
  2. We’re lowering the price! What has been known as MDS 2+ is now $19.95 US/$24.95 CAN and will be called . . . yes, you guessed it, MDS. It’s the same great software and content at a fantastic new price.
  3. Coming soon: all of you who have been holding onto the original My Digital Studio software will be able to upgrade for FREE. We’ll let you know as soon as it is available. (Can we get a woot, woot?)

Yep, THAT just happened.

Other stuff you may want to know:

  • We will still offer a free 30-day trial version of the MDS software for anyone who had not previously tried the MDS 2 Trial.
  • The original My Digital Studio software (not the product line) is going away, including support for it. The free upgrade will be available soon!
  • MDS 2 (the software that didn’t have much content) is going away.
  • You can still get the software on a disc (item 130647) or as a download (item 130646). Just keep in mind the disc will say MDS 2+ on it because it will take us awhile to switch everything out.

Share your excitement below. (Virtual high-fives all around.)

We understand that when a price changes after you have made a recent purchase it can be frustrating. If you purchased the software at the old price from March 1 to March 17, 2013, the following will be added to your Download Manager by Wednesday, March 20:

MDS 2+ or MDS 2

  • Up To Date Planner Template (item133271, retail value $14.95 US/$18.50 CAN)
  • Hello There Kit (item 133374, retail value $9.95 US/$12.50 CAN)
  • Everyday Woodcuts Embellishments  (item 132191, retail value $5.95 US/$7.95 CAN)

MDS Upgrade

  • Hello There Kit  (item 133374, retail value $9.95 US/$12.50 CAN)

I've read all the positive comments and the negative, and I wanted to voice my opinion on this topic.  I paid the full price for MDS2+ last year and about two weeks later the price drop was announced.  At first I felt sick about it, but then I took into consideration how much money I saved during the "digital kits at half price promotion."  The loss compared to the savings just about evened out so I wasn't upset anymore.  Besides, technology changes so fast that waiting for the best deal is never worth it for anything you buy because you would lose all the knowledge you've gained from having it so much longer.

Jennifer, yes the 'new' MDS is what we have known as MDS2+   here is the quote from above

"What has been known as MDS 2+ is now $19.95 US/$24.95 CAN and will be called . . . yes, you guessed it, MDS. It’s the same great software and content at a fantastic new price."

The blog says the new MDS software for $19.95 includes the same content as the original MDS.  But if you go to purchase it on the web site it says you have the ability to purchase content.  It doesn't mention "how much" content is included on the software.  Is it still roughly $500 worth of content?  And if so, is it the same content as the original MDS software or has it changed?

Since I've been using MDS for the last 2 years, I can't begin to know how many FREE downloads that Stampin' UP! has given us.  We just got one a couple weeks ago, and we've been getting the free desktop calendar downloads, and MDS2+ comes with $500 worth of digital content.  Sure I like to save as much as the next person, but sometimes the value comes with use, and we have used the program, maybe our friends, family, and customers will too.  Have some faith that this company is doing what they can to keep prices as low as they can, and how horrid it would be if they kept the price the same even after their cost was reduced so drastically.  $60   bucks goes a long way, but I just spent nearly that on paper crafting supplies for 200 cards, and I'll never get to use those supplies again.  Digital information is incredible, and it changes very suddenly and without warning.  Hooray for us.  WE STILL WIN!

Yes, Heather Johannessen!   You hit the nail on the head.

I am pleased that more of my friends will get this great product, I am excited about that.

Your last paragraph really explains my frustration though that I could have gotten a cheaper product that offers the same features or different but comparable features and chose SU because of their good reputation, and have stuck with them but am not feeling as loyal anymore.

I'll speak for myself but I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling this way.

1) YAY! MDS is cheaper. It's a win for demos, new customers, and SU! I am truly, 110% elated for those folks.

2) YAY! For SU being the kind of company that passes their savings on to us. I was always quite certain that their supplier was setting the price because they are a company and can't sell something at a loss. I quit shopping with any other scrapping company (including Michaels and JoAnns), except on the rare occasion, because I continue to be disappointed with other companies, not SU.

3) YAY! For more digi scrappers... more ideas, inspirations, tutorial, tips, tricks, techniques!

But having said and believing those three things whole heartedly...

I'm disappointed. I am. I am sad that I bought $100 worth of software that now others are getting for $20 without the company honoring and appreciating my loyalty. SU isn't different than any other company. My disappointment lies in the fact that I thought they were. I am happy to have bought MDS when I did. I wouldn't change a thing, really. I don't mind paying more for it, really. What I do mind is a company not seeming to value my worth in my loyalty. All the big name companies do it.. Target, WalMart, Best Buy... Oh, don't get me started about cell phone companies, they're the worst!

The irony to me is that because all of us who paid full price for the product they are now able to offer it to others at a killer deal. Again, don't get me wrong, I could NOT be happier for those folks. People will get to use MDS for cheap, demos will make more money, SU will make more money and it's loyal customers get what??? Years of using the same software everyone else now gets to use at 80% of the price. NICE! real nice... I feel the love. (yes, that is sarcasm you smell)

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not hating on SU. They are doing what every other company out there does. It's not a BAD thing, per se. But the kind thing... the thing that would make SU be the kind of company that goes above and beyond would be to offer ALL previous owners something... some sort of download or something.

If you think about it, if SU were to off ALL previous owners a kit of their choice, let's say, it wouldn't COST SU anything except for maybe bandwidth for the download. SU already has the files, already owns those file, etc. It isn't like they have to create a product or pass along a tangible item that would cost them money. Sure, they wouldn't MAKE money on it but they have already MADE money on my more expensive MDS. To me, in my ever humble opinion (smell that sarcasm again), it would make SU be that stand up company I know they are if they honored their loyal customers. After all, my thought is why be loyal to a company that isn't loyal back. I can get that a lot cheaper somewhere else.

Did anyone think to that maybe when SU! got that big price reduction they felt like WOW, I didn't realize our vendor who made the program was charging THEM as a customer so much more as well?  I can't believe everyone is SO upset that they are passing on a savings to us customers they are now just receiving themselves.  I now have 11 friends who bought the program at the party I hosted Sunday.  That's 11 friends to go crop with.  I appreciate Stampin' Up! making this so affordable for my friends.

I think that is great for those who dont have it, but why not decrease the downloads or new products price so everyone could take adv. of the price change.  wow  I wish i had waited now that is a big difference from 79.95. but that wasnt considered was it??

I just upgraded in January.  It's very generous of SU to offer this upgrade for free, and it's also nice that they're giving the free items to customers who purchased within the last month.  It doesn't cost them anything to give the free items to everyone who purchased the upgrade whether it was during March, during 2013, or since MDS 2 came out.  I think if they're going to make this offer, make it fair for everyone!

I am so glad to read the positive comments on this thread tonight.  I really hope that the negative backlash doesn't stop Stampin' Up! from sharing their gains with their customers in the future.  Because of Stampin' Up!'s savings WE (the customers, which include demonstrators!) are gaining!  THANK YOU for investing in your customers and please continue to do this!

In the meantime, I thought I'd share a success story!  I had an MDS workshop yesterday and sold two of the MDS $99 versions, and with the super amazing announcement today, I closed the party with selling ELEVEN MDS programs!  I am SO excited as this is ELEVEN more customers using the program, sharing what they love and being excited about something I am passionate about!

Again, thank you Stampin' Up!
