All That Awesome in One Little Nursery

I’ve had ideas swirling in my head (and on my Pinterest boards) about how to decorate my son’s nursery for months now. I knew that if I didn’t get it done before he was born I might not ever finish, but life is what happens while you’re making other plans right? It’s been half finished since he was born—he’s six months old now—yikes, that went fast! Somehow I doubt he’ll be loving this look in middle school, so it’s time to get serious and finish this up before we get to that point!

I found this idea on Pinterest and had to have it! It was really quick to create in MDS and the tracking function made it easy for me to format the words so that they are even on both ends.

My Digital Studio just released a fun new download called Nursery Framables and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! I needed to change just a couple of colors, but it was really easy. The cute little shapes are an embellishment so you won’t be able to use the coloring tool on it. Instead, just copy and paste then crop the shape that you need and change the color. I went down each row and it really didn’t take long at all. It worked best to increase the size of the cropped shape just a little bit to help cover the image underneath.

I loved the birth announcement I designed in MDS for Jesse and I thought it would look fantastic hanging in his room. It was a 5" x 7" trifold, double sided and that doesn’t fit into a standard frame easily. I really didn’t want to pay for custom framing so instead I pulled both images into Photoshop side by side and then sized them down to fit on an 11" x 17" page. You could do 11" x 14" but I wanted a little extra room on top and bottom so that I could tape it down onto the mat easily.

I love inspirational quotes, so Perfect Pennants and Life is All Around made it onto my ‘must have’ list right away. Even though it’ll be a long time before Jesse is reading on his own it never hurts to be positive! I use the coloring tool with stamps all the time. It’s so great that you can get a custom look in just a few minutes.

I used Dr. Suess’s book, “Oh the Places You’ll Go” as my inspiration for the room decor—it’s one of my very favorites! I thought it would be fun to have several pictures of places around the world for Jesse to look at. I remember looking at pictures like that for hours when I was a kid. There was something magical about dreaming of far off places.

Using my own bucket list as inspiration, I searched Instagram and saved the best pictures to my own phone, then had them printed. Thank you world travelers! You just made my life easier and my little boy’s room super cool.  :)

As I planned all this out I noticed that there were several awesome travel downloads for My Digital Studio and I couldn’t wait to use them with my Instagram collage. They were just what I’d been looking for. I do most of my crafting digitally now, so it was a lot of fun to design these, print them and put them together. I think it adds a fun 3D look to the collage and I was able to add in some quotes from the book. I also used some extra scrapbook paper to add some color and I found that cute little bike charm in a dollar bin at the craft store. It was completely random, which—as we all know—means it was fate. It belongs in Jesse’s room!

I still have a few things to finish in the nursery: bookshelves, a couple of pictures and some throw pillows, but I’ve made great progress and I love the way it’s coming together. MDS has opened up a whole new world to me. I love that I can use it to create my own unique home decor!
