Has anyone tried using MDS with the Brother Scan N Cut? Is it compatible? Also, I read that it has FMC files... are those compatible with MDS? Lastly, if you had to choose between Brother Scan N Cut and the Silhouette Cameo, which would you choose and why?

Hey Sheryl,

We're not familiar with the Brother Scan N Cut, but it looks like FMC files are their own proprietary version of SVG files. So, MDS can't read FMC files, and you won't be able to use MDS's SVG files with your Brother Scan N Cut unless you convert them to FMC files--they have a free conversion tool on their website.

Out of the box, the Silhouette Cameo cannot accept SVG files either, though you can go through a similar conversion process. You can purchase additional software, however, like the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition, Inkscape, or SCal that let you use SVG files without going through the conversion process.

I will just add that I love my Silhouette - It is easy to use (I have never used an electronic cutter) and the additional software (called Silhouette Studio Designer Edition) is not very expensive. I am not familiar with the Brother Scan N Cut - but definitely love the Silhouette!

Marti, thanks so much for your insight and updates! This was most helpful!
