Creating your own punches!
Ok, I'm about as un-computer-savvy as they come, but I follow directions well! We just got back from a trip to St. John and I've always loved Leah's Nova Scotia page with the pictures in the title. Problem is, I don't like to "piece together" the letters around the pictures like she did. I wanted this look for a title page for my vacation album and was really excited about the new letter punches this week. Then I started playing and realized I NEEDED capital and "fatter" letters. Long story short, I did a google search to see if I could change a stamp (png file) into a punch (svg file)... and we can! I used the Letters stamp set in MDS and copied a file of each letter I needed to my desktop. At the end, instead of importing anything into the program she talks about, I just made a new folder in my MDS punches section and dragged the new svg files into that folder. The result is this:-) and the really cool thing is this will work with any solid stamp! A whole new world just opened up to me:-)!!!

Oh my goodness -- you are so clever! Thanks for sharing and your page had caught my eye on the home page so love knowing how you did it. MDS is just amazingly customizable -- hard to believe how many great tips people have come up with the truly stretch it's capabilities. WOW!

When I opened them in the page, they were about 8 inches tall, but just resized them to 2 inches and they worked great. Apparently (and this is a totally untechie interpretation of something that's beyond my brain's capabilities to understand) the svg files are something called vector files so they resize without distorting the shape. And for those of you who are tech-savvy, please excuse my slaughtering of the concept and vocabulary:-)!

I tried doing this.....got a few letters copied over, but they have little padlocks on the icon and I can't get them to show up in MDS.
Any ideas?

When you saved the file in Inkscape, did you do a "save as"? I just followed her instructions through saving the file. I "save as" that file to my desktop, then pulled it into my MDS punches folder. I didn't try it with anything other than the letters stamp set. Also, don't know if it matters, but I'm on a Mac? Let me know if you figure it out.

I did do "save as", but I was trying to save it right back in the Components > Punches folder directly. When I saved it to the desktop and dragged it into the folder - THEN it worked. Not sure why the difference? But THANK YOU!

You can't save do a save as directly into the components folder because the programs folder is protected. You have to save it somewhere else first and then copy or cut and paste into your components folder.

Your page looks awesome, Tami! I also consider myself not so computer savy, so I am incredibly impressed with the challenge you took on!! The rewards have paid off with a gorgeous page that you should be proud of! I am not sure if I will try this myself right now, but I will keep it on the list of things that can be done with this program.
